What we've been up to
Lokahi is excited to be partnering with Headcount this summer, and to announce the launch of (RED) U. Check our blog and myspace page for updates as they come!

Who we are
We rock social justice. Lokahi Outreach is a small organization that was founded by a group of young activists in 2002. Our goal at the time was to create a more just world by empowering people around us to step up and take action in unique ways. We've been busy ever since. At the moment, we're best known for being the group of people that takes organizations like the ONE Campaign and Oxfam America out on the road, getting hundreds of thousands of people involved to make poverty history. We exist to build support for the causes and campaigns we care about, and in the process we empower and train people (with a special emphasis on youth!) to take action and fight for things like fair trade, human rights, protecting our environment, civic involvement and to end extreme poverty.
What we do
We fight global poverty. We fight for the environment, civil rights and for civic participation. We re-think education. And we do it all in innovative and relevant ways.
When training our volunteers for concert and event outreach, we always start by telling them the same thing: "what you are doing today is at the very core of making a better world. A lot of people complain about what goes on around them, YOU woke up today and chose to do something about it. You chose to come here because you want to make a difference. That's huge - that changes history.
The belief is evident in all that we do.
Lokahi does all sorts of stuff: we have an after school program and curriculum, we do lots of event related work (everything from Live 8 to NASCAR races!), we help organizations with marketing and their visual identity, we do consulting and we run summer internships.
Our main program, though, is our concert outreach. We're 'roadies with a cause', creating change by taking campaigns on the road with bands like U2, Coldplay, the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, the Indigo Girls and the VANS Warped Tour. Grassroots campaigning is a crazy world, being on tour is even crazier, but we've managed to blend the two into a finely tuned, inspiring machine that gets people empowered, well trained and doing good!
The past few years we have been working with the ONE Campaign, Witness, ACLU, Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam's Make Trade Fair Campaign. We are always eager to work with other likeminded organizations that are interested in building support and empowering people to take action.
Why we do it
Lokahi is an organization formed around the idea of social entrepreneurship. Our model is based on empowerment and inspiration: we empower and inspire our crew to be leaders, we empower and inspire our volunteers by training them to get more people involved, and we empower and inspire those we talk to night after night to realize their ability to positively impact the world around them.
