What makes you an excellent campaigner and activist?
Being able to explain complex issues to an 8 year old in an after school setting! Lokahi has been involved with the after school community in Southern California for the past six years. Lokahi was in part created by teachers, and teaching is core to all that we do. For our after school work, we currently partner with California Living Histories and the Pasadena Unified School District. Our curriculum is based on teaching our students about civics, community service and global awareness - often times our lesson plans will work in the themes of the campaigns we are taking on tour!
We work in these themes via a project based learning model that incorporates literary arts, science and art, with a special emphasis on technology. In essence, our goal in our after school programming is similar to our goal as an organization: to empower, educate and inspire our students to act on their ideals, to think about the world around them and their own role in making that world a better place.
If you are interested in receiving more information on our after school programs, or in partnering with us in such work, please send us an email. Also, be on the lookout for a new website that will go live soon that will be featuring our curriculum!
